If there wasn't a set set up in the street with the director, cinematographer, technicians and various workers of a professional film, the amateur film sequences shot by Sauro Ravaglia on 21 August 1965 would easily be confused with those of a normal, chaotic day at the beach on the Romagna Riviera at the height of the economic boom, but instead we are in the middle of the tour of Dino Risi's 'L'ombrellone', and in particular in the scene of the arrival in Riccione of the engineer Enrico Merletti, played by Enrico Maria Salerno, who rushes from Rome by car into the swarming chaos of Ferragosto to reach his wife. The colours and songs of Risi's film will be the surface of a comedy that sinks into gloom, while the black and white of Ravaglia's backstage is simply more realistic for photographing the colours of booming Italy.
