Clara is a teacher in a country primary school in Soglio, a hamlet of Orero, a municipality in the Fontanabuona Valley inland from Genoa. She and her fiancé Enrico see each other when they can and he never misses an opportunity to film her in this period leading up to the wedding, any excuse is good. And the film "Bimbi a scuola" (Children at school, 9,5mm, 18’) is indeed a good excuse. In fact, from the complicity of the two of them, this small documentary was born, aiming to portray "some aspects of a country school". After about a month of preparation, filming began and on 19 November 1939, Enrico filmed Clara with her pupils in the classroom. Imagine Enrico's feelings at seeing how much loving care Clara shows with the children, the same dedication his fiancé puts into his filming. The result is there for all to see and the schoolchildren will show eternal gratitude for this experience with 'the gentleman of cinema', at the end of which they will write him a letter asking him to return.
